The family of Roger Doiron painfully announces the sudden and unexpected passing of our patriarch on Sunday, August 13th, 2023. Roger was born April 1st, 1947, in Bathurst, New Brunswick.

Our father has been reunited with those his heart longed to see again: his mother, late Louise Doiron; his father, late Arthur Doiron; his baby brother, late Donald Doiron; and his spirit animal, little dog Spawn.

His children walk in grief now as we try to make sense of this tremendous loss. Daughter Lisa Collins and son-in law Michael Collins would have moved mountains for their dad. They hold on tight to every memory made with “their third wheel”. Daughter Lori Doiron and son-in-law John Morrin unconditionally loved and adored their father for exactly who he was. Roger loved and was dedicated to the three children he shared with Janelle Day. Rachel Day meant so much to him and her success was his success. His sons (or “the boys”) is where he has left his legacy. Roger Doiron Jr, our father’s namesake, made our father so proud, especially in the two weeks prior to his passing. Adam Doiron, the baby, always had and always will hold the deepest part of our father’s heart. Together we grieve: sister Lise Morin (Fred); brother Robert Doiron (Karen); brother Guy Doiron (June); and sister Raymonde Doiron (Jim and Teddy). Grandchildren: Maicie Gowan; Kayla Doiron (Shawn); Tamara Morrin (Christian); John Morrin Jr (Brittany); and Austin Morrin (Aaron). Great-grandchildren: Abby-Lee Morrin; Sadie Creedon; Mason Morrin; and Benson Roger Morrin. So many nieces, nephews and extended family feel this loss.

Dad will be fondly remembered by the tenants at Queensway Apartments, and fellow fishermen of the St. Mary’s Rapids and the boardwalk pier. Grampa is missed by his little buddy, Joseph Cadeau (miniature dachshund). Our father was an accomplished gold medal winning gymnast representing Bawating High School in his younger years. Landslide Road and the Hiawatha Park served as some of his earliest stomping grounds. Retired pipefitter from Algoma Steel, Roger continued working in retirement for a couple of years with his dear friend Bob Zuke in Mackenzie BC.

Roger was known as a legendary fisherman. He spent the last weeks of his life fishing in his boat on Basswood Lake in Phillips Bay Resort, happy and in his element. Roger’s best friend of many years, Dan Schell, fished Goulais Bay with him days before his passing, and we know time with Dan always meant so much to Dad.

Our father was a resilient, strong man that loved deeply and never fell short with his acts of service to those he cared for. Dad could speak on any topic, fix anything, and always spoke from the place of truth. He had a one-of-a kind personality with a unique sense of humour.

The family sends their heartfelt gratitude to: Bob Lahde (Gateway Casino); Dr. Bodnar (SAH emergency); Megan RN (SAH emergency); Dr. Wakegijig; Dr. D’Agostino (pathologist); SAH Mobile Crisis; Holy Family Church; Auntie Carol and Dawn (lovingly referred to as “Donna”) Simoncini. The most beautiful people can make the most difficult times bearable.

In keeping with our father’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be announced in the near future. Memorial contributions payable by cheque or online to the Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E. 705-759-2522). Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the Doiron family.

God grant us the serenity to accept this loss to which we have no control. We will walk through this pain one day at a time, just as our father would have encouraged us to do.
