(1935-2023)

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Margaret Adeline Drew's passing. She peacefully departed on Saturday, November 25, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones at the Sault Area Hospital.

In 1935, Adeline was born to Alex and Rachel Hunter of Desbarats, Ontario. She was the eldest of eight siblings: Frances Brunton (Harry), Hughie Hunter (Arlene), Alex Hunter (Ronda), Don Hunter (Beverly), the late Jim Hunter, Heather Kirby (late Ralph), and Peter Hunter. As the eldest, Adeline quickly took on the role of supportive caretaker to her siblings, which led to a lifelong dedication to homemaking and family.

Adeline grew her family in Sault Ste. Marie, ON, with her surviving husband of 65 years, Frank Alonzo Drew. Adeline also leaves behind her children Alan Drew (Mary Ellen) and Joan Warmington, "Grandma's little girls," Katherine Hatherley (Josh), Amber Dufaj (Darek), Holly Drew (Konar Morley-Zayet), and Shannon Warmington (Spencer Farias); as well as great-grand-children Maverick and Ashton Dufaj. She will be deeply missed by numerous relatives and friends who loved her dearly.

In her youth, Adeline was an active community member of the Oddfellows Rebekah Lodge in Sault Ste. Marie, ON. She worked in a variety of retail establishments, including the long-since-closed Kresge's on Queen Street, later known as Jupiter Stores. She was also an accomplished and avid bocce player, winning numerous awards for her athletic skills.

From her green recliner, Adeline shared many a fond memory to her friends and family, including memories of tea and lunch with her mother, tales of her siblings lovingly keeping her from being bored, and stories of how her children's mischievous youth made her laugh deeply. She would tell these stories to her grandchildren, inspiring them to fill the room with their own tales; she'd listen ever so intently and patiently till she'd soft-spokenly say, "I'm not sleeping; I'm just resting my eyes."

Adeline's warm and loving presence will be deeply missed, especially during family gatherings. As the orchestrator of family holidays, dinners, and BBQs, she created countless opportunities for her loved ones to make beautiful memories. Her butter tart recipe is a treasured keepsake that will bring back a flood of memories with every batch. As she would say, "It's not goodbye; it's till I see you again."

Friends and family are welcome to pay their respects at Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East, 705-759-2522) on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, as well as a funeral service at Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at 1:00 pm.  Mrs Helen Smith officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice are appreciated.

"But anyways..." - Adeline Drew
