It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH). We take great comfort that he is now reunited with his beloved dance partner of 48 years, Diane. Loving father and friend of Michael (Jennifer) and Stacey McLean (Craig). Proud Papa of Amber, Mariah, Colton and Jaxen. Predeceased by his parents Hazel Woito (late Percy), the late Hector Dunbar and his brother Bill. Brother of Les Dunbar (Cindy), Brenda Dannrath (late Rudy), Rick Hayward (Rozanne) and Beth Scutt. Son-in-law of the late Albert and Blanche Bourgeois. Brother-in-law of the late Vince Larochelle (Pierrette), Abby Christie, Janet Slobodecki (Alfie), Lucille Jensen (Henry), late Yvette Favaro (Wayne) and the late Sunshine Cvengros (John). Gary will be dearly missed by his companion, Maria and his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Uncle Gary and Aunt Diane were always known for hosting the annual Christmas party and their vibrant social life.
Gary will be missed by his lifelong friends Randy and Janet Anderson, casino buddies Ed and Darlene Tyreman and his Catch the Ace friends at the Esquire Club. He will always be remembered for hitting the dance floor with his Romano dance shoes on, winning competitions from a young age and dancing up until his final days. Gary was a devoted employee in the Utilities Department at Algoma Steel as a First-Class Power Engineer for 52 years. Over the course of many years, Gary had a passion for muscle cars, owning Dodge’s, Plymouth’s and his beloved Road Runner.
Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service in the Chapel at 1:00 p.m. with Mrs. Helen Smith officiating. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial donations to the ARCH would be greatly appreciated by the family.
