With heavy hearts, our dear Bonnie passed on Thursday, August 23, 2018, surrounded by her family at the Sault Area Hospital. Much loved wife and best friend of Lynn for 49 years. Loving mother of Todd (friend Maureen). Daughter of the late Annie and Bill Smith. Dear sister of Audrey Lee (Wayne), late Fred Smith (Linda and Warren Bemrose), Wanda Taillefer (Paul) and Wendy Thomlinson (Charlie). Sister-in-law of Jim Dunne (Louise), late Pat Dunne (Judy Zaritzky and George), Greg Dunne (Aili) and Brien Dunne (Roni-Ann). Aunt and great-aunt of many nieces and nephews whom she loved and cherished with a true heart of love. She would light up with the greatest smile when friends and family were present. Bonnie bravely battled a chronic disease of Lupus and every imaginable aspect of it for 45 years. Given five years to live in 1973, she prevailed without a doubt that with faith and a desire to live, one can beat the odds (she was a prize fighter). Bonnie suffered daily without most people knowing – her precious smile never let you see the pain. She always prayed faithfully to God for his hand and help. Bonnie had many special people in her life. Dr. Walde for over 30 years, who treated her like a daughter. The oncology nurses and staff never stopped caring and loving Bonnie. Dr. Fratesi was so very special to her; his compassion and genuine care for her is a true sign of his character. Her nurses and co-workers were so caring and worked compassionately to help Bonnie with her struggles. Also thank you to Dr. Schamp and the nurses on 3C and a special thanks to Dr. Berg and all of the ICU team. Bonnie also had three special angels: her two nurses Sierra and Alivia and her home care worker Tracy, whom she loved dearly. Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service to be held in the chapel on Monday, August 27, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. Memorial donations to Lupus Ontario or the charity of your choice would be appreciated. Heaven has received an angel. What she taught us was that no matter the obstacle, no matter the hand you are dealt, you can find love, joy, positivity, hope and move forward with great courage.
