June 2, 1932 – June 18, 2024

Jean passed away quietly at the Sault Area Hospital in her 93rd year. She is joyfully reunited with her beloved husband Robert “Bob” Edwards (d. 2000) and her loving daughter Shelley Sabourin (d. 2015). She is the thoughtful and supportive mother of Cheryl Schroeder (Don). Mother-in-law of Yves Sabourin. Cherished Nan of Cody (Cyndi), Kyle (Marie), Amy (Jeff) and Matthew and great Nan of Sawyer, Cooper and Henry. Jean will be deeply missed by her sister Gloria Crozier (late Orval) of Port Elgin, her sister in laws Dorcas Spence (late Roy) and Shirley Edwards (late Morley). Jean is predeceased by her parents George and Nesta Martin, her brothers Edward and Thomas Martin and sister in law Iva Scott (late Clifford).

Jean was very proud to be born in Spanish where she lived her entire life raising her family and working. She began her career as a grocery store clerk then moved on to teaching at the one room schoolhouse. From there Jean gained employment at the Bank of Nova Scotia where she retired as the bank manager.

Jean enjoyed her life and lived it to the fullest. She and Bob liked golfing, boating on the North Channel and socializing with friends.

Community was important to Jean. She took an interest in the Legion and the Anglican Church and volunteered at many of their functions.

Jean forged many deep and meaningful friendships. We fondly remember Stasia, Laura, Les, Ken, Sally, Vic, Ev, Eira, Jack, Kathy, Delores, Debbie, Lisa and Lynn. She was fun, liked to laugh and took an interest in you as a person. We will forever miss her quick wit and funny quips.

Special thanks to Dolores Dugas, Dr. Stirling of Elliot Lake and Dr. Taylor and nursing staff of 1B at Sault Area Hospital.

Donations in memory of Jean to a charity of your choice are appreciated by the family.
