April 24, 1944 – November 2, 2018 - Passed away surrounded by the tremendous love of his family after a valiant battle with cancer at the age of 74.
Bill showed his true strength and courage as he found peace on the final day of his journey. Bill was reunited with his recently departed wife and best friend of 51 years, Alexis Ferguson on Friday, November 2, 2018 at noon. Bill will be deeply missed forever by his daughter Liz (Marcel) and son Jon (Teresa). “Gumpy” shared a special bond with his grandchildren Josi, late Jenna, Maddi, Gavin and Mya and will be eternally cherished in their hearts. Bill is predeceased by his mother Elsie Ellis and brothers Garry and Steve.
He is survived by his older brother Brian and younger sister Paula Ellis. Bill will be fondly remembered as a respected teacher, coach and friend and for his love of family, sport and Batchewana (“the most beautiful place on earth”). A special thank you to the staff of the ADCP who provided Bill and his family with outstanding care for four and a half years.
Friends may visit at Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E. – 705-759-2522) on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 from 12:30 to 2:30 pm. Memorial Service to follow in the Chapel at 3 pm. Memorial donations to the Algoma District Cancer Program at Sault Area Hospital would be greatly appreciated by the family.
