GRAVELLE, Miriam O.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother Miriam Orvokki Gravelle (nee Leppanen) at the Sault Area Hospital on Thursday, July 20, 2017. She leaves behind her children Gary (Ann), Brian (Nicola) and Brenda, seven grandchildren: Matthew, Emma (Ollie), Anna, Eryn (Craig), Kerilyn (Jonathan), Michael (Ashley), Joseph, and her five great-grandchildren: Ellason, Foster, Jensen, Keaton and Ellara. Beloved mother-in-law of Karen. Our mom is now reunited with her husband Gerard (Gerry), her sister Laila Harju and her parents Charles and Irene Leppanen. She will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law, both here and deceased as well as numerous friends. Mom loved cleaning (she was the original Mrs. Clean), playing cards, Paul’s Bakery pulla, eating out and being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Special thanks to our cousins Pam Johnson (Ken) and Patty MacDonald (Mike) for all their help and support for Mom over the years and her “Sault Kids” Steve and Wendy Rutti for their love and help! Over the past few years, Mom had many health issues and we want to thank her physician Dr. Leahy for her kind professionalism. A special spot in Mom’s heart and ours is reserved for the caring staff of the Sault Area Hospital, especially the Complex Care Unit. Your care for our Mom in her last weeks was wonderful. Friends may visit at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Monday, July 24, 2017 from 1:00 – 2:30 pm. Funeral service to be held in the chapel at 3 pm. Rev. Hamish Currie officiating. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the SAH Complex Care Fund would be appreciated by the family.
