We are brokenhearted over the death of our mom, Ellen Hamor nee: Doyle. Mom passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at the Sault Area Hospital on May 23rd, 2024, at the age of 86.
As Mom begins her new journey, she leaves behind her daughter Isabel (Mark) Giralt, her son David (Mary) Hamor, and daughter Anita Doyle. Mom is an adoring grandmother to Alexander, Victoria, and Aaron.
Mom was a lifelong learner and educator. She spent decades teaching Kindergarten and Junior Kindergarten in the Soo. Mom positively impacted the lives of her students as evidenced when we would play the “Popularity Game.” The game went like this: you would receive a point if someone said “Hi” to you and another point if they said your name. Each and every time we walked through the Station Mall with Mom, echoes of, “Hello Mrs. Hamor” could be heard every few feet. Mom always won.
Before falling ill, she was an active member of Holy Family Church and despite her hardships she was incredibly generous and felt blessed.
We would like to thank all the staff at VanDaele who lovingly cared for our mom these many years.
Mom’s Graveside Service will be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery on June 26th at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, we would ask that donations be made to the Alzheimer Society - Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (payable online https://alzheimer.ca/algoma/en , https://www.heartandstroke.ca/ or by cheque).
Mom will forever live in our hearts and the many hearts of those she touched.
