It is with profound sadness that the family of William Hanna announce his peaceful passing at the Sault Area Hospital on November 9, 2024.

Beloved husband of the late Angélina Hanna, of 66 years. Proud and loving father of Anne-Marie (Pat) Limlaw of Timmins, the late Gerand Hanna of Guelph, William “Bill” Jr. (Michael Imber) of Milton, and Monique Pertteli (Fred Luck) of Sault Ste. Marie. Dearly loved Grandpa of Deidra-Marie Limlaw (Russell Boucher) of Timmins, Patrick Limlaw (Courtney) of Chelmsford, and Jessica Jensen (Travis) of Sault Ste. Marie. Beloved Great Grandfather of Macy-Anne, Lucas, Maxwell, and Jace Jensen.

Predeceased by his parents, Wesley and Claire Hanna. Predeceased by his siblings: Betty Stewart (Stan), Murray Hanna (Pat), Lloyd Hanna (Bert), Doug Hanna (Eva), Jack Hanna (Alice), and Ruby Hanna. Survived by his sister-in-law, Beatrice Dufour. Uncle to many cherished nieces and nephews.

Bill was born in Gladstone Manitoba, where he worked on the family farm, supporting his family. From there he travelled to Sioux Lookout to work on the boats. It was here that he went on a blind date with his future wife of 66 years, Angélina. After they wed, they moved to Atikokan, Ontario and started their life together, shortly after, settling in Sault Ste. Marie, to grow and raise their family. He worked at Algoma Steel as a General Foreman of Riggers, Iron Workers, and Welders.

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Special thanks his daughter Monique and son-in-law Fred, for taking great care of him since his move to the retirement home.

Much appreciation is given to the staff for the Sault Area Hospital, Dr. Curran, Dr. Jordan Law, Dr. Nikki Apostle, Dr. Lovelace, and all the beautiful, amazing, and compassionate staff of 3C and the Emergency Department.

Family and friends are invited to a Funeral Mass at St. Gregory’s Roman Catholic Parish on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 12pm with Father Trevor Scarfone officiating. Cremation to follow. William will be laid to rest next to his wife at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.
