On Friday, June 9 , 2017 a beautiful warm sunny day, Sointu Helena Heimonen (Penttila) 84 surrounded by the love of her family went to be with our Lord. Born on June 5, 1933 in Kaustinen, Finland she was the daughter of the late Matti Valter Penttila and Aini Sulina Jyrkka. Sointu immigrated to Canada in 1957 and has shared an amazing love story with her husband of 58 years Pentti Pekka Heimonen. Sointu cherished her three daughters and her son-in-laws, Helena Huopalainen (Andy), Hannele Dionisi (Michael) and Heidi Silvano (Richard). Sointu was the loving mummi to six grandchildren Katrina (Catlin), Matti (Breanne), Mitchell, Kyle, Peter, Noah and a great-grandmother to Kolby. Sointu was predeceased by her sister Laila Peltoniemi (Pentti), Helvi Altonen (Mauri), brothers Viljo Penttila and Mauno Penttilä. Survived by her sister Alli Alto (Aarne), Aino Renlund (Ralf) and Tuula Penttilä all of Finland. Family and friends are invited to visit at Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 from 6 to 8 pm and at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 from 10 am until time of funeral services at 11 am. Pastor Leo Tanninen and Pastor Paul Patteri officiating. Interment Greenwood Cemetery. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the PSW support from WeCare, the staff and doctors of 3B at Sault Area Hospital, and the staff and volunteers at ARCH. Memorial contributions to ARCH or the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church would be appreciated.
