“Anyone who believes in me will never die.” (John 11:26)

Sister Mary Jakubo (Sister M. Michelle) transitioned into God’s heart for eternity on October 8, 2022.

Sister Mary was born in Sudbury, Ontario to Michael and Mary (Hajnik) Jakubo, who emigrated to Canada from Slovakia. The Jakubo family made their home in the Donovan, where Mary’s Slovak roots could be nurtured within her family and with friends. Faith was a vital component of the Jakubo home and nourished through the family’s close ties to their home parish of Holy Trinity and with their pastor, Msgr. Henry Murphy. Both faith and family fostered Mary’s vocation to religious life.

Sister Mary entered The Sisters of St. Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie on Feb 2, 1957. Throughout her years in the congregation, she served in various administrative, accounting, and pastoral care ministries in hospitals throughout Northern Ontario as well as in the administration offices at St. Joseph’s Motherhouse.

Sister Mary’s memory has left an indelible impression of unwavering kindness and faithfulness on the hearts of our religious congregation, her friends, as well as her family. She was predeceased by her sister Helen (Gilles Huneault, predeceased) and brothers John and Michael (Jeanne, predeceased). Mary is survived by her sister Anne (Romano – predeceased) and brothers Joseph (Joan) and Edward (Cathy), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Sister Mary’s body will be welcomed back to the Motherhouse on Sunday, October 16, 2022 at 2 PM in the Sacred Heart Chapel. Prayers and a wake service will be offered at 4 PM. We will gather for the liturgy of the resurrection on Monday, October 17, 2022 at 11 AM in the Sacred Heart Chapel.

Please note visitors are required to be fully vaccinated. Visitors will also be given a Rapid Antigen Test and must wait 15 minutes before proceeding into the chapel. Masks are required.
