It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Wanda on August 1st, 2023, at Health Sciences North in Sudbury, ON. Wanda left this world peacefully with her two daughters by her side.

Beloved mother of Alishia Hallam (Jim) and Jessica Laidley (Kevin). Dearest sister of Linda Laidley, late David Laidley (Carla), Cheryl Taylor, Gerry Laidley (Linda) and the late Sonya Calderhead (Bob). Stepsister of Daryle Jones (Julie), Thomas Jones (Laura) and David Jones. Predeceased by her parents, Betty and Allan Jones. Nanny to Douglas Allen (Sandy Kaur). Wanda leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. Auntie Buddy loved you all dearly.

Despite a long and painful battle with chronic illness, Wanda lived and loved her family and community with her whole being. Her giving spirit extended beyond her own home, where Wanda spent countless hours volunteering at Harvest Algoma. Wanda was often seen, with her cane at first, and then with her walker, sorting, preparing, and rescuing food. Feeding her community was a deep passion for Wanda and her growing barriers couldn’t stop her from helping those in need.

Alishia and Jessica would like to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Amparo Wolf who spent years trying to fix what was broken and who stayed by mom’s bedside until the very end. Thank you for not giving up on her. We’d also like to thank the ICU team at HSN, especially nurse Brody who treated mom with exceptional care, grace, and kindness right until the final moment. To the nurses at HSN 4South who did their very best to provide comfort at mom’s worst, especially Lindsay, Chelsea, Emily, and PSW Tanya. To Dr. Johns and nurses Brianna and Shannon at the Sault Area Hospital ER for acting quickly and giving us so much patience. And to Paramedic Joe: we were so proud to see you in action and that you achieved your goals. Keep doing amazing work.

Donations in memory of Wanda can be made to a food bank or food security organization of your choice and are appreciated.

On Wednesday August 9, 2023, from 6-8pm, family and friends are invited to bring their sense of humour, joy, and fond memories to O’Sullivan Funeral Home, to celebrate the life of Wanda. Come share in her favourite music and refreshments and help send her off the way she lived – with music, laughter, and a good cup of tea.
