With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing at the Sault Area Hospital, with his family by his side on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at the age of 80.
Son of the late John Konopaskie and Rose Gauthier of Kirkland Lake, Ontario. Dear brother of Jackie Dallaire. Loving father of Lynn vanLieshout (Gerald), Glen Konopaskie (Christian Marcillo), and proud grandfather of Justin Konopaskie. Marcel will be sadly missed by his nephews Criss and Daren (Pina), his aunt Florence Pomminville, her daughters, and many cousins. Beloved husband of Louise Turco Crema. Marcel will be sadly missed by her children Susan Crema Martin (Michael) and Richard Crema (Trishia) and grandchildren Andrew, Danielle, Megan, Kaitlyn, Brooke and Paige. He will be fondly remembered by Bob (Pat), Vince, Marie (Al), the late Joe (Jeannie), Carol, Theresa (Dave), and many friends. He is survived by his former wife, Denise Labbe.
Marcel was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed scuba diving, hunting, fishing and family camping trips. He had a passion for teaching including defensive driving, gun safety, as well as vocational skills which brought him to teach at Alexander Henry High School, White Pines High School, and Lakeway Collegiate & Vocational School. Marcel previously worked at Algoma Steel as a sheet metal worker and welder.
The family would like to thank the Sault Area Hospital ICU Doctors and Nursing team for the compassionate care given to Marcel.
Friends may visit the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street E. 705-759-2522) on Friday, December 30, 2022 from 6 pm until 8 pm. A funeral service in the chapel on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at 10 am with Fr. Alex Saurianthadathil officiating. Interment at Holy Sephulchre Cemetery. Memorial contributions (payable online or by cheque) to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation - Critical Care Fund would be appreciated by the family.
