The family announces with sorrow the death of Norma Leighfield at Brantford General Hospital, Brantford, Ontario on Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, in her 87th year. Beloved wife of the late Rev. W. E. (Ted) Leighfield. Dear mother of Bill and Jan of St. Catharines; Ken and Heather of Wyoming; Elaine and Mike La Ronde of Kitchener; Chris of Ottawa; Steve and Louise of Paris. Much loved by her grandchildren, Ted of Parry Sound; Dave and Holly of St. Catharines; Christina of Portsmouth, Ohio; Philip of Sydney, Australia; Rachael of Paris. Predeceased by grandson, Kenneth. Step-grandchildren, Mark and Lisa of Peterborough; Kimberly of Ottawa; Great-grandchildren Jade, Ray, and Nathan of Peterborough, Lydia of Ottawa. Dear aunt of Wendy Bingham of Sault Ste. Marie; Doug and Jo-Anne of Leduc, Alberta; Martin and Pauline of Ajax; Dave and Mary of Maple. Great-aunt of Erin, Grant and Mikayla. Norma was very involved in the life of St. Paul's United Church in Paris, participated in numerous volunteer activities throughout the county and worked at the Paris Public Library for many years. She was also involved in local politics, serving as a councillor and deputy reeve for the town of Paris and as the first female Warden of the County of Brant. Friends will be received at the Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Ave., Brantford on Friday, Sept. 23 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Visitation at St. Paul's United Church in Paris on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. Donations to Project Ploughshares, 57 Erb Street West, Waterloo, Ontario, N2L 6C2 or to Paris Meals on Wheels c/o Joan Benson, 58 St. Andrew Street, Paris, Ontario N3L 2X3 would be gratefully appreciated.Our thanks to the staff of Telfer Place and Dr. Donna Allen for their support.
