Lombardo
Peacefully passed away at the Sault Area Hospital on Monday, November 26, 2018 at the age of 82. Maria is now reunited with her beloved husband Gaetano Lombardo of 44 years. Cherished mother of Domenic Lombardo (Barbara). Proud grandmother (Nonna) of Gaetano and Claudia. Maria is predeceased by her parents Francesco and Ines Muia and parents-in-law Domenico and Maria Rosa Lombardo. Sister of the late Giuseppina Niceforo (late Nicolino), late Giuseppe Muia (Gemma), Nicola Muia (Laura) and Domenico Muia (Graziella). Sister-in-law of the late Ines Guarneri (late Alfredo), the late Teresa Lombardo, the late Leda Capelleri (late Domenico), Stella Lombardo (late Gaetano), the late Nicola Lombardo (Cecilia), and the late Giuseppe Lombardo (Melina) all from Italy. She will be missed by many nephews, nieces, cousins, family members and friends. Maria was a loving, devoted and caring wife, mother and grandmother, and will be greatly missed. Her main focus in life was to love and care for her family. Maria had a passion for cooking and traditional family gatherings, she enjoyed sharing her knowledge of “Fine Italian Cuisine” with family and friends, and willingly provided a helping hand when asked. In her later years, Maria endured numerous health issues and set backs, but her strong faith carried her through those trying times. She will live on through the many memories she created together with family and friends. Family and friends are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road, 705-945-7758) on Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Funeral Mass to follow at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at 11:30 a.m. with Father Paul Conway officiating. Entombment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, mass intentions in memory of Maria Lombardo, memorial donations to Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, or the charity of one’s choice would be greatly appreciated by the family. A special thank you goes out to all doctors, medical, nursing, personal support workers, housing keeping and kitchen staff, and neighbourly friends at the Sault Area Hospital in units 3C, 2A and 3B for their professional care, compassion and kindness shown to Maria and for the emotional support extended to her family. The family would like to thank Nadine and Paul Condon for their emotional support and prayers, regular visits with Maria and for providing the family with delicious treats and meals. Special acknowledgement and thanks go to Fr. Paul Conway, Fr. Pat Woods and Fr. Hamish Currie for providing spiritual and emotional support during this challenging time.
