LORTIE, Elizabeth Ann (Liz)

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved sister and Auntie at MapleView Extendicare Thursday, October 4, 2018 at the age of 60.  Liz reluctantly left us after rebounding many times not wanting “to go before her time”.   Her body won the fight and she is now lovingly reunited with her predeceased parents Oliver Lortie and Mary Lortie nee Chaimbrone.  She was the cherished sister of Late Gerry (Peggy) (Late Val), Rick (Sherri), Wayne (Darlene) and will be sadly missed by nephews Jerry (Nancy), Jason (Sarah), Bryce (Kathryn), Marcel and nieces Vicky, Danielle (Mac), and eight Great nieces and nephews.  Liz was known at Mapleview for gifting staff and residents with her endless pieces of artwork; pictures, beaded and Rainbow Loom necklaces, bracelets, rings, painted wooden signs, birdhouses etc. She had a very generous heart and loved giving things to others.  However, on the flip side she also had a reputation of mischievously gifting herself with candy, snacks, pens, etc. without consent. She spent many years trying to modify this behaviour but was never successful. She became a master of apology letters instead.  She loved to give hugs and kisses and enjoyed country music, especially Patsy Cline and Boxcar Willie. She loved babies and was known for being able to rock them to sleep. She also had a way with animals. They seemed to gravitate toward her.  Case in point was Karen M’s Gracie the pig. In her younger years she loved to help cook and was famous for her perfectly rolled meatballs. Liz worked many years at SooGoma Industries in the print shop while a member of Community Living Algoma. She took her job very seriously.  It was her source of pride.  Special thanks to Glen and Candace Guzzo and family, for taking Lizzy into their home and making her an honorary member of their loving family.  She loved you all and you will always have a special place in our hearts. Also, thanks to the many staff at former Extendicare Great Northern Rd and later MapleView Extendicare, who showed patience, kindness and love to our sister, despite her many indiscretions. She always felt you were her friends and was distressed when she thought she had disappointed you. Your job is difficult and often performed under difficult conditions. You are special people and Liz was blessed to have you in her life (you know who you are).  If you felt that Liz touched your heart it was because you extended yours to her, and she reached for it. Thank you.  We also extend our gratitude to those who visited Liz over the years, and others who always inquired as to her wellbeing and brought her gifts. We appreciate your kindness.  A heartfelt thankyou to Dr. Sam Fratesi for all the years he tended to Liz in his wound clinic at Sault Area Hospital.  She looked forward to her appointments with him and never left without giving him a hug.  He treated her with kindness and respect and was always her advocate.  We are eternally grateful for his expertise and humanity.  As per family wishes there will be no visitation or formal funeral.  A Celebration of Life will be held in Liz’s honour to be announced in the near future.
