2021-12-27 MacKINNON Sharon Elizabeth

July 24, 1947 - December 25, 2021
Sharon passed away peacefully at the Sault Area Hospital after a short, heroic battle with cancer. Her husband and best friend Blair of 41 years was by her side. Predeceased by her parents Lois and Peter Anderson, her in-laws Don and Bette McKinnon and numerous aunts and uncles. Sharon will be missed by her brother David Anderson (Clorise) and by Blair’s siblings Roddie (late Erma), Janet Blake (Tom), Joanne Prestedge (Ray) and Alison Seymour (Robert). Much loved aunt of Jane, Sarah, Dawn, Brent and Andrew and great aunt of 7. Missed by her fur babies Scotia, Domino and Catscan (aka Scammer).

Sharon began nursing in 1969 and worked in that capacity for 43 years performing numerous roles within the field. After retirement, she volunteered at The Algoma Manor, with the Rebekah’s and as a board member with the North Shore Health Network. She was also her Thessalon family’s go-to medical advisor (on call 24 hours a day).

Sharon loved traveling especially to the Mayan Riviera in the winter. Her hobbies included crocheting, knitting, reading and collecting cookbooks. Having been raised in a military family and eventually joining the military herself, Sharon was fortunate to have lived from coast to coast, within the Yukon Territory and many other areas in central Canada. She made friends easily and her life was greatly enriched by the people she met and the experiences she had.

The family wishes to thank homecare nurses Amy and Jessica, the emergency room staff at NSHN-Thessalon and the staff in the emergency room, acute care, ICU and palliative care at the SAH. In the end, Sharon gave them all passing marks for their care.

In lieu of flowers, donations to NSHN-Thessalon Site are appreciated by the family and can be made directly online at www.nshnfoundation.care

Sharon’s life will be celebrated at later dates in both Thessalon and Warsaw, Ontario.
