On Sunday, March 26th, 2023, at the Algoma Manor, Jim Mason passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the age of 75. Survived by his loving wife, Jo. Cherished father of Bob (Lori), Stacey (Sarah), Melissa (Andy), Lee, Trevor (Kecia), Bethany (Raph) and Cameron (Sarah). Adored "fighting" papa of Aleesha, Hunter, Tucker, Sydney, Rory, Carter, Greg, Brennan, Nick, Nate, Peyton, Mallori, Emma, Zach and Andie. Special great papa of Zöe, Willow and Sophie.

Born, May 7, 1947, to the late John and Agnes Mason. Jim will be fondly remembered by his brothers Dave Mason (Lisa) and the late Jack Mason (Lynn). Dear brother-in-law of Steve Barner (Rose Anne), Fran Hamilton (Delano), Pete Barner (Lea Anne) and the late John Barner.  Dear Son-in-law of the Late Wanda Barner and Late Sam Barner (Late Nancy).

Fiercely hardworking all his life, Jim enjoyed his career as a mechanic and his time as a volunteer firefighter for many years. As a young man, when he wasn’t working, he could be found playing ball with the local Mets team or in winter coaching hockey in Echo Bay. Into his retirement, Jim found a passion for landscaping, making sure his lawn was raked and the garage was cleaned just right. Jim was also fisherman at heart and will be missed by his friends he fished and lounged around with at Wakomata Lake.

Jim was a proud family man. He enjoyed not only watching his grandchildren grow, but also had a humorous time “terrorizing or wrestling” with them, which rewarded him the name, Fighting Papa.

We would like to thank the doctors, nurses, PSW’s and all other support staff at Algoma Manor for taking tremendous care of Jim over the last couple years. To all of our friends and family, thank you for being such a big support for us all and being there during these hard times, we love you.

At this time, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Jim’s life will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations made to the Sault Ste. Marie Alzheimer’s Society, the Echo Bay Elks or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. Cremation entrusted through O’Sullivan Funeral Home (215 St. James St., Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, P6A 1P7, 705-759-8456, www.osullivanfuneralhome.com).
