August 08, 1940-August 5, 2023

On August 5th, George Matejic, passed away peacefully at home with his beloved wife and soulmate Maralyn at his side.  George was the son of Kathleen and Matthew Matejic and was predeceased by his cherished sister Anna.

George and Maralyn married on July 31st, 1971, and for over 50 years, spent their lives enjoying all that nature has to share.  From Batchewana Bay to Montreal River, they had adventure after adventure, making wonderful friends along the way.

George retired from the Algoma Central Railway in 1995, after working over 25 years as the recreational lands leasing administrator. Anyone with a lease in ACR territory can attest to George's expertise and sincerity.  Always a gentleman, his company was enjoyed by all.

George was a hardworking man with a smile that lit up his whole face.  He was witty and charming and could recall even the smallest detail from any historical event, bush road or trout pond.  His homemade bread, roasted meats and smoked fish were delectable.  Heaven will rejoice when George shows off his cooking skills and makes all his special dishes which we who are left behind all enjoyed and will miss so much.

George will be deeply missed by the man he called 'son', Kevin Caruso and 'daughters' Lisa and Sheila.

Family and friends may visit O’Sullivan Funeral Home and Cremation Centre (215 St. James Street, SSM) on Thursday August 10, 2023, from 10:30am-12:30 pm. A Funeral Mass will follow at 1:00pm at St. Gerard Majella Church (211 Pentagon Blvd., SSM) with Father Charles Abiamiri officiating.
