It is with much sadness that the family of Sophie Isabell Matheson (Parker) announce her passing on Friday, April 21, 2023 at the Strathcona Long Term Care Facility, Mount Forest Ontario.

Just short of her 98th birthday, Sophie was born on June 2, 1925 at Rydal Bank, Ontario.  She is the beloved wife of the late Allan Matheson and mother to Darlene Jones (Jim), Brenda Washburn (Roland), Ronald Matheson (Joan), Donald Matheson, and Randal Matheson (Hazel).  She is also grandmother to Mitzi Sirokolit (Jeff), Sam Vaughan (Lori), Jeff Jones (Phyllis), Erin Dobbins (Scott), Philip Matheson (Lisa), Allan Matheson (Jennifer), Marnie Craig (Darren), Craig Matheson (Beverly), David Matheson (Jeannine) and Danny Matheson (Berkley).  She is survived by 18 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.  Sophie is survived by her brother Grant Parker (Grace) and predeceased by her brothers Bert Parker (late Edith), Robert Parker (late Chris), Mitchel (late Claudette), and her sisters Eileen Burry (late Harry), and Emily Allen (late Ellis).

Sophie was a kind and loving person and a wonderful friend to all who knew her. She had an adventurist spirit and never considered the possibility that something might not work out, she just went ahead and did it! She spent many years caring for others, eventually retiring from the General Hospital where she was able to earn her RPN certification along with her colleagues. She and Allan raised their family in the Sault Ste. Marie area and later retired to Georgetown Ontario to be close to their family.  Many wonderful years were spent travelling, camping, fishing, and hosting family gatherings where everyone was welcomed regardless of what plans might have been in place.  She enjoyed her involvement with the Seniors' Groups participating in the various activities and volunteering whenever help was needed.  Her life was full of love, compassion and companionship bringing much happiness to those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Friends will be recieved at the Jones Funeral Home on Tuesday April 25th from 1:00 - 2:00 pm. Funeral service will be held in the chapel at 2:00 pm. Cremation to follow.
