Passed away peacefully at Mauno Kaihla Koti on Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at the age of 87. Beloved husband of the late Mae. Dear father of Sharon Hewitt (Carmen), Ellen Herbert (Jerry) of Ohio and Tom (MaryLee) of Burlington, Ontario. Loved grandad of Lynda Crockford (Bill), Becky Cheney (Eric), Bob Herbert, Fraser McCracken and Shaun McCracken. Great grandfather of Austin John Cheney. Survived by his 3 brothers, Merlin, Tom and Ken McCracken and his sister, Rhoda Shaw. Predeceased by his sister, Edith Duquette. Austin worked for 41 years at Algoma Steel and proudly served his country during WWII in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Wednesday, June 29, 2005 from 6-9 pm. Funeral service in the chapel on Thursday, June 30, 2005 at 1 pm. Rev. Bruce McLeish officiating. Interment Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Mauno Kaihla Koti or the Victorian Order of Nurses (Algoma Branch) would be appreciated by the family.
