MCKAY, Mary Joyce, of Sault Ste. Marie passed peacefully on Friday, August 23, 2024.

Joyce, the loving wife of Ian McKay, was born on July 10, 1932, in Iron Bridge, and she and Ian were married on November 21, 1952 (72 years). Beloved mother of Douglas (Rhonda), Carey Ann McKay, Allison Sauve (Michael), Beth Tower (Rod) and Stuart (Jennifer). Cherished grandma of Ryan (Mignon), Kristy (Trevor), Raven, Katie (Mark), Sam (Adrienne), Riley (Jaz), Ian, Sadie and Charlie. Great-grandma of Ava, Theo, Jasper and Gwendolyn.

Aristotle famously said, 'We are what we repeatedly do.  Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.”  Joyce's life was a living testament to this, as she consistently pursued excellence in every aspect. From an exquisitely ironed shirt to running a business with her beloved husband, Ian, she moved through life deliberately, fully, and, even at the end, with a mischievous sense of humor.

Joyce was a private person who prioritized her family and community quietly and steadfastly. Her love for cooking was a testament to her warmth and generosity. She loved making butter tarts and pies for the church, and her home on Florwin Drive was a hub for the neighbourhood kids. Many can attest to eating her famous Beef Barley soup on a cold school day.

The family expresses our gratitude to our friends and neighbours, Linda and Ron Kelly for their unfailing support through a difficult time. The family wishes to express our deep appreciation and gratitude for the genuine care and commitment of the staff from Bayshore and ARCH.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East, 705-759-2522) on Thursday, August 29, 2024 from 2:30 pm until 3:30pm. Funeral service to follow at 4:00 pm with Reverend Laurie Stevenson officiating. Interment Cloudslee Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations payable by cheque or online to ARCH, Central United Church or the charity of your choice would be appreciated. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be offered at www.arthurfuneralhome.com.
