Memorial Service: FIELD, Sarah Katherine

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing from Covid-19 of Sally Field at the Sault Area Hospital on Tuesday, January 18th, 2022 in her 104th year. 

Born Sarah Katherine Smith on August 25, 1918 at home in MacLennan, Tarbutt Township (Smith Road). Predeceased by her husband John (Jack) Turpin Field in 1971. Mother of John (Lise) and Jim. Grandmother of Jayne, Mark (Kelley) and Paul (Belinda) and great grandmother of Carl, Tannor, and Dominique Cere-Field and Ava Field. Predeceased by parents Malcolm Smith born in Stornaway, Isle of Lewis, Scotland and Sarah Jane MacDonald born in Ripley, Ontario and siblings Frederick (Stella), John, Malcolm (Kathleen), Irene, Henry, Donald (Lillian), Sidney (as an early teen). A cherished aunt of many of four generations.

Sally started her work career as a Bell operator. After raising her family she worked as an attendance counsellor for 14 years. She had a long, outstanding record of volunteer community service in organizations such as Big Brothers, Big Sisters, Family Services as a board member and the Cancer society, setting up the Breast Screening Clinic (herself being a breast cancer survivor). She was instrumental in getting the Women in Crisis home up and running. She was also on the St. Andrew’s United Church board and an active member. She received numerous awards and was always an advocate for women. 

A memorial visitation will be held at Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E. - 705-759-2522) on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 from 11 am to 12:30 pm. Service to follow in the chapel at 1 pm. Rev. Eun-Joo Park and Rev. Phil Miller officiating. Interment Greenwood Cemetery.
