Maria passed away peacefully in her sleep in Ottawa, on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at the age of 88. Predeceased by beloved husband Romeo Morassut. She was a devoted mother to her children Carla (Jim) Barry, Jerome (Susie) Morassut, late Julie (Dan) Short and Nancy (Steve) McLaren. “Nonna” adored her grandchildren Bryan (Eden), Laura (William), Andrew (Jenny), David, Stafani, Nicholas, Juliana and Martin, and great-grandchildren Soren, William, and Sophie. Predeceased by brothers Lindo (late Irma) of France, Luigi (late Rosanna) and Domenic (Iride) Bortolussi of Canada and sister Graziosa (late Nino Vianello) of Italy and brothers-in-law Dionisio (Fidia) Morassut and Bruno (late Annie) Morassut. Also survived by her sisters in Italy, Solidea (late Giuseppe Segatto), Elide (Franco Del Ben), and Iside (late Carlo Di Monte), in Canada by brother-in-law Gian Carlo (Maria) Morassut and many nieces and nephews. Born in Giai, Friuli-Venezia-Giulia, Maria came to Canada in 1952 to marry Romeo to whom she was betrothed. Maria was a hard-working, devout, selfless and loving wife, mother, nonna, and friend whose spirit and strength will be missed by all. Friends may visit at the Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel, (492 Wellington Street, East, 705-759-2522) on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 7 - 9 pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 10:00 am. Rev. Trevor Scarfone officiating. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
