We are sad to announce that our beloved Doreen passed away peacefully with family at her side at Sault Area Hospital on Monday, January 2, 2023 at the age of 87.

Devoted wife of the late Aimo, her family takes comfort in knowing they are reunited once again.

Much loved mother of Patti Smith (Dave) and Rob (Samantha), cherished and doting grandmother of Riley Barsanti (Robert) and Nicholas and adored step-great-grandmother to Abigail Barsanti-Witiw.

Doreen is predeceased by her parents, Nelson and Marie Dupuis. Loving sister of Raymond Dupuis (Jeanne), Vicky Bellefeuille (late Fern), Theresa Armstrong (Marvin), Shirley Dupuis, the late Lorraine Brooks (late Norman), the late Donald Dupuis (late Margaret) and the late Eleanor St. Jules (late Art).

Daughter-in-law of the late Eino and Ida Muhonen. Sister-in-law of the late Hilkka Swan (late Jack) and the late Shirley Aikens (late Ralph). She was loved dearly and will be sorely missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She will also be missed by the lifelong friends she made attending the Algoma VON Day Program. Doreen loved crafting, dancing and listening to music with her friends and adored the staff at the program.

Doreen was a woman of faith who will be remembered for her kindness, her gentle spirit, her generosity and her thoughtfulness. She was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off her back and humbly cared for others her entire life. Doreen and Aimo had so much love to give that they spent many years fostering children at their home. Whether it was fostering children or hosting friends, their home was always a welcoming place filled with warmth, love and laughter.

She adored her family and loved to spoil her grandchildren (including the fur babies, Hudson, Doug and Hank!)

She was the queen of Yahtzee, Scrabble, puzzles and crosswords. She loved the Maple Leafs, the Blue Jays and the Packers. We will miss hearing her clap and cheer at the TV during a good game.

Doreen was truly an angel on earth and now she is our angel in heaven.

The family would like to express their utmost gratitude to Doreen’s health care team, Dr. Reich, Dr. Curran, Brenda Paat and Ana Greve for their excellent care of Doreen over the years, as well as her PSW Patty Muncaster and home coordinator Nicole Burns for making her life at home more comfortable.

We’d also like to thank Dr. Johns, Lora Currie and Ashley Harris for their care and compassion during Doreen’s final hours.

Friends are invited to visit at Arthur Funeral Home - Barton and Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. East 705-759-2522) on Monday, January 9th, 2023 from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. with Mary Alice officiating. Doreen will be laid to rest with her husband at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Doreen had the gift of loving and giving and would appreciate memorial contributions (payable by cheque or online) to the Algoma VON Day Program, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Lung Association of Canada or a food bank of your choice.
