With broken hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Patricia Marguerite at the Nairobi Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya on March 16, 2023. Pat was the daughter of the late Foy and Gladys Oak of Sault Ste. Marie. Born in Edmundston New Brunswick in 1943, she settled with her family in the Sault in 1950. After graduating, Pat worked in Toronto, where she met her husband, Carey. They made their home in Nairobi from 1967 until her passing.

Patricia was predeceased by Carey, her daughter, Sylvia, and most recently her son, Thomas. Her family left behind to celebrate her life include her son Paul with Melissa, Priscilla, Courtney, Thomas, Isabella, Khloe, Amara, Juniper and Silas; her brother Tom with Louise, Danielle, Todd, Oliver and Addison, Paul, Margot and Graham; her sister Elizabeth with Kristopher and her most beloved grandchildren and their families, Melanie, Khloe and Ethan.

We were fortunate to see Pat and her family on her yearly visits to the Sault. Although she loved Kenya, she needed to see and feel her home with the evergreens, hardwoods and family cottage at Trout Lake. Sadly, her visits became more difficult as a result of an accident that made it challenging for her to travel.

Pat was a loving, caring person and family was everything to her. She had strength of character that despite limitations, there was never a complaint or a challenge that would prevent her from making the most of life. We were fortunate that advances in technology allowed us to visit on FaceTime with hour-long conversations. We will miss her warm infectious smile and sense of humour so very much. Our gratitude is forever extended to the Muriuki family, Etta, Beverley, Pat’s many friends and all of her caregivers for the love, assistance and sense of family provided to her over these many years.

Pat will be laid to rest at her family’s country home in Kanjuri, Karatina on April 1.
