NADEAU Joseph Samuel

Peacefully at Extendicare Van Daele on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 in Sault Ste. Marie (“the Soo”).  Born August 31, 1929 in Chicago, IL, Joseph (Joe) is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marguerite Marie (Greco) and his daughter Marie-Claire Moore (Nadeau), grandsons Alexander and Nicholas Moore and his sister-in-law Claire Hamer.  Predeceased by his parents Agnes and Wilfred Nadeau, his brothers-in-law Rudy Greco, Ray Greco, Don Greco and Frank Alkunas and his sister-in-law Emilia Alkunas.

Joe spent his early years in Chicago.  After moving to Toronto and then to the Soo, Joe attended Sault Collegiate.  After graduation he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force where he spent the next 8 years flying and navigating Lancasters, DC3’s and Mustangs all over the world.  He served in the Korean War flying rescue missions. After his military service, Joe joined Algoma Steel where he spent 34 years in various departments including Safety, Packaging Control and Customer Service.  He served in various capacities as a member of the AISI.  After retirement from Algoma Steel, Joe spent the next 20 years as Manager of Columbus Club Housing. Joe was an active member in his local church, St. Jerome’s and the Knights of Columbus (3rd Degree). Joe loved to golf and laugh and spend time with friends.  Respecting his wishes there will be no formal service.  Joe will be cremated and will rest next to his parents at West Korah Cemetery. Our sincerest thanks to the Van Daele nurses, doctors and care-givers.  They are “truly angels” for their excellent care of Joe. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to a cause of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. East 705-759-2522).
