NEIL (1)

(December 25, 1949 – November 23, 2017) - It is with great sadness that we share the sudden loss of Richard (Rick) Ira Neil, a dear brother, father, uncle and grandpa. Rick had a great sense of humour, often creating a trail of laughter after sharing his witty stories. Rick is predeceased by his son, Jason Neil. He is greatly missed by his son Troy and daughter-in-law, Roxanne, and his granddaughters, Emilie, Montana and Samantha who especially cherish the stories and advice that Grandpa often shared as they were definitely taken to heart. Rick is missed by his sister, Dawn, and brother-in- law, Ivan Milkovich, nephew, Steve (Sheila) Milkovich and niece, Stephanie (Kelly) Milkovich, his brothers Wayne, Ted (Shirley) and Myles and many nieces and nephews. Rick spent many years in Thunder Bay where he worked at Lakehead University before moving to Sault Ste. Marie where he had developed a great love of Lake Superior and the beautiful wooded area in Goulais River where he called home for a number of years. The quiet and serene environment was an opportune area for Rick to develop his love of reading. Rick was very knowledgeable of World War trivia that he took pride in sharing with others. Rick was a very compassionate person, always willing to help others in any way that he could. His love of nature was valued and passed on to his family. The family would like to thank Dawn, Ivan and Wayne, whom he was closest to, for helping in every way they could, to brighten his days, which often included trips to the local casino to try his luck. The family would also like to send a special thank you to the friends Rick made at the Finnish home or making his final years more enjoyable as he developed friendships that were cherished more than you know. Rick struggled with Crohn’s Disease for many years and the family hopes he is resting peacefully. As per Rick’s request, no service will be held. We miss you and will always treasure the stories and the memories created together. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd 705-945-7758).
