NELSON, Christopher Glynn

It is with profound sadness that the family of Christopher Glynn Nelson announce his passing on May 5, 2022, at the age of 65. After a long, hard fought, and courageous battle with cancer, Chris left this world, the way he strived to live his life, peacefully, and at home surrounded by his family. If you knew Chris, you knew his story; he loved his family, and lived his life for them.

He was a devoted husband to his wife Lori Marenger-Nelson for 35 years. He was a loving and very proud father to his four sons: Glynn (Stephanie), Matthew, Michael (Ema Harding), and Andrew. Chris was an adoring Papa to Glynn and Jack Nelson. Chris was a brother and very best friend to Brian Nelson (late Diane) and Brenda Scornaiencki (late Tony). Brother to Linda Laplante-Proulx (Donald). He was a very special Uncle to Krista Morgenstern (Corey Gardi), Tricia Scornaiencki, Mark Scornaiencki (Shannon), Paula Watts (Aaron), Philip Nelson (Lauren), and Paul Tulloch (Sue) and Stephanie Martinez (Jim) . Great Uncle to many nieces and nephews who thought the world of him. Chris was predeceased by his parents Clara Jean Laplante (Ron) and Paul Nelson. Son in law to the late Buck and Theresa Marenger. Dear brother in law to Wayne Marenger (Darlene), Randy Marenger, and the late Dennis Marenger (Sharon).

Chris took great pride in his family’s history. He had the uncanny ability to remember the past like it was the present. Chris was a storyteller at heart and was always eager to share a story, or to reminisce with family and friends. Throughout his life, Chris was a very proud, loving and loyal family man. His family meant the world to him and nothing brought him more joy than having them around to share a story, watch a Leaf’s game or enjoy a bonfire in the backyard. Chris truly enjoyed the simple things in life, the laughter of those he loved, a long chat on the phone, a walk in the bush, a day spent on the water fishing with one of his boys, and of course an ice cream, chocolate bar or cookie.

Chris was also very proud to be a Steelworker and was an active member of Local 2251 for over 40 years. We know in our hearts that the stories have already started with the many loved ones whom he is now reunited with, especially his loving mother Clara Jean, and his dad whom he lost when he was only 2 years old. We also know he’s sharing a few beers with Tony and Dennis (late brothers in law).

In his final days, Chris was so well taken care of. His family would like to thank Dr. Booth, Dr. Rassouli, and Dr. Hirvi, as well as all of Chris’ special angels from CBI and Bayshore Home Healthcare. Chris’ family would also like to thank Kim Brownlee for all that she did for both Chris and his family.

As per Chris’ wishes, there will be no funeral service. A private, family service will be held at a later date. He chose his final resting place to be on St. Joe’s Island, where he was born. Chris loved the Island and treasured the stories and the history that went with it. Chris would want to be remembered with a kind word or a good story about him. In Chris’ memory, he would want to remind those he left behind to enjoy life to its fullest and take the time to appreciate each and every day.

Memorial Donations in Chris’ memory may be made to The Sault Ste. Marie Alzheimer Society, ARCH Hospice or the charity of your choice.
