December 9, 1953 – October 29, 2024

With Deepest sadness we announce the unexpected passing of Evan at the Sault Area Hospital with his wife, daughter and sister holding his hands along with his family and friends as he left this world.

Left to mourn is Cheryl, his beloved best friend and soulmate for 53 years. Patricia, his loved daughter, the lucky charm of his life and fiancée, Cody Dias.  Evan is the son of the late Lorne and June Papineau, and son-in-law of the late Donald and Patricia Stewart.  Treasured brother of Linda Wilson (late John). Brother-in-law and best hunting buddy to his brother-in-laws Donald Stewart (Rose), Arthur Stewart (Deanna), Scott Stewart (Kelly) and Jason Stewart (Shelby). Uncle and great uncle to several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Godfather to his special goddaughters.

Evan loved to tease and wait for a response which he would be quick of wit and respond with one liner.

Hunting season was his favourite time and he looked so forward every year. Plans were always underway for the next year soon after the existing season finished.

Evan proudly served as a counselor for the Township of Cockburn Island for over 20 years. He loved being on the island and co-captaining the P.S. Popcan for 27 years from April to November every year. Everyone that knows him would remember his saying “Wind Snow Blow we go“ to get on the Popcan.

Proud hockey billet dad for 14 years. He had so many stories and laughs with each of them. Each of you left lasting memories with him. Health issues saw Evan retire from ASI in 1989..Not one to stay idle he channelled his spare time being noon aide at Tarentorus School for junior and senior kindergarten class for 5 years. then off to Hi Tec as a Security Guard.

He will always be remembered by the nieces, nephews and godchildren as they recall his sayings and diddies how he loved to watch them laugh and say oh Uncle Even.

Words can’t say how extremely proud he was of Patricia’s accomplishments and engagement.

His fur babies Zoe and Mandy will miss their ATV rides and companionship.

As hard as it is to say goodbye, we have solace that you will sail to your beloved island and rest at peace. You will always be my captain and we will sail together again.
