Passed away peacefully, with his family at his side, on Sunday, June 19, 2005 at Markham Stouffville Hospital in his 83rd year. Beloved husband of the late Beverly (nee Hagger) of Blind River. Loving father to Paul (Helena) of Blind River, Janice Johnson (Richard) of Truro, N.S., Susan Hanna (Chad) of Aurora, Nancy Edwards (John) of Whitby and David (Tiffanie) of Val Caron. Proud grandfather of Jeff (Jane), Bill and Matthew Johnson, Craig and Lauren Hanna, Laura and Michael Podstawka, Nicholas and Jack Podstawka and Leah Edwards. Predeceased by his parents Mary and John Podstawka of Toronto and brother Walter of Buffalo, N.Y. Survived by his sisters Anne Stacey of Collingwood and Bernice Pietzak of Buffalo, N.Y. Mike will be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews and fondly remembered by his friends, especially his coffee group. As a veteran of W.W.11, Mike proudly served his country with the R.H.L.I. regiment from 1942-1946. He was well known for being one of the co-founders of Hagger's Men's Wear, Blind River in 1956. Friends and family will be received at the Menard Funeral Home, Blind River on Wednesday, June 22 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. James the Greater Parish on Thursday, June 23 at 10:00 a.m. As expressions of sympathy, donations to St. James the Greater Parish or the Blind River District Health Centre would be greatly appreciated.
