PORTER, Michael copy
Mike, to friends and family, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Sault Area Hospital on Sunday, December 24, 2017 at the age of 88. Born in Ayr, Scotland, Michael immigrated to Canada as a young man, working as a cowboy, a bus driver, an insurance investigator, and a salesman before settling in Sault Ste. Marie with his beloved wife Esther, where they raised their two children, Mike and Jo-Anne. Michael became a Christian in 1976 and his life was a testimony to the goodness of God and those who knew him witnessed it every day – from the kids who had Mr. Porter tie their skates, to the men who worshipped with him at the Men’s Breakfast, to the young people who he took to concerts and conferences, to the grateful fellow believers who walked in to a beautifully clean church every Sunday – Mike Porter was a walking testimony for his Savior and those who knew him saw it in everything he said and did. He knew no strangers and always had a good word for everyone.  After retiring from Algoma Steel, Mike had yet another career at Arthur Funeral Home where he retired a second time after years of service. In all of his adventures, Mike Porter lived life to the fullest and left a legacy of love in his wake. Beloved husband of Esther Porter for 57 years, loving father to Michael (Nadine) of Coeburn, Virginia and Jo-Anne Randall (John) of Cascade Locks, Oregon. Proud grandfather of Mike Porter, Devin Landry and Glenda Landry. Great- grandfather to Klara and Allie. Brother to Mary Prince, Margaret Fellows (late Lloyd). Brother-in-law to Ron Prince, the late Gerald Proulx (Yolande), late Raymond Proulx, Jo-Anne Jelly (late Wayne) and Joan Batson. Mike will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends especially Gary and Velia Collins who were neighbours for 57 years. Friends are invited to Greenwood Cemetery Chapel, 27 Fourth Line East, to attend a funeral service on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Sam Norbo officiating. Memorial contributions to the Salvation Army or Teen Challenge would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E.
