August 10th, 1938 – June 15th, 2023

It is with broken hearts and profound sadness, that we announce the passing of Rachel, at the age of 84.
Rachel was the beloved mother of her son, Corey Bernardo (Eduarda) and cherished grandson Nico Valentino, her daughter Shelley Nadeau (Mark), and her son Vincent Bernardo (predeceased). Amongst the angels, she is predeceased by her mother, Doris Laycock, her sister, Florence Olmstead (Victor), her sister, Margaret Bertrand (Leon), and her sister, Baby Sherly Aubin. She will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews, Paulette Shank (Ubald), Normand Bertrand (Frances), Goddaughter Louise Bertrand (Tim), Gail Meir (Raymond), Susan Larsen (Steve), Steve Olmstead (Gina) and countless grand nieces and nephews.

Rachel was born in Martland Township, Sudbury District. Her love of music and performing began at a very early age, singing in choirs, competing, and winning countless awards. She was very gifted, graduated from Nipissing Teachers College at the age of 17, and moved to Sault Ste. Marie shortly thereafter to begin her career. Her love of cooking and entertaining throughout life, would always bring friends and family together. But it has always been Rachel’s strong faith in God that has guided her.

We would like to share a special thank you to the staff of ARCH Hospice, Sault Area Hospital Supportive & Palliative Care, March of Dimes Canada, and the Canadian Red Cross.

A funeral service (all are welcome) will take place at St. Jerome Roman Catholic Church (26 Carmel Road, Sault Ste. Marie) at 11:00am on Thursday, June 29th, 2023 – followed by a private graveside service at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to ARCH Hospice (www.archhospice.ca), the Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca) or a charity of choice would be greatly appreciated. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the family.
