ST. JACQUES, Rene

Posted

The family of Rene St. Jacques sadly announce his death on August 27, 2017 at the age of 87 years after long suffering with diabetes and dementia.  Rene served as an RCAF mechanic on jets for 5 years, then moving to Sault Ste. Marie when married to work as a mechanic on cars and heavy-duty trucks.  Eventually he worked in Algoma Steel’s Power and Service division until he retired after almost 26 years of service.  For most of his life he loved sports and was active in ice hockey, shot putt, running and swimming and eventually developed a passion for touring motorcycles, on which he and his wife explored Canada and Michigan.  He was also an excellent musician and singer who particularly enjoyed entertaining his family, friends and senior citizens with his German-crafted harmonicas of various sizes.  Rene leaves behind his loving wife, Elizabeth, and caring sons, Rene T. and Delmer and Delmer’s fiancé, Mary Ellen Nyman, as well as his surviving siblings Evelyn (late Lorne) Monford, Kathleen (Jerry) O’Brien, Rheal (Shirley) and Gilles (Josie).  Rene’s family extend warmest appreciation to the staff at Great Northern and Maple View Nursing Homes for their superb care and compassion as well as those at Sault Area Hospital for their enduring kindness and help over the years.  Memorial contributions to the Extendicare Maple View or to the SAH Foundation.  Our gratitude also to the staff at Arthur Funeral Home for their ever-compassionate service.  According to Rene’s wishes, there was no visitation or service; cremation has taken place.  Interment to be determined.
