Peacefully surrounded by family at the Sault Area Hospital on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at the age of 99.
Beloved wife of the late Howard Sr. Loving mother of the late Olive Stevens, late Joseph Stevens, late Judy Pruce (late George), Howard Jr. "Butch" Stevens, late Mary Stevens (Pete), late Valerie Stevens (John), Paul Stevens (Dolly) and Marie Stevens (late Todd). Devoted grandmother of 24, great grandmother of 39+ and great great grandmother of 25+. Predeceased by her parents hereditary chief Augustine "Gus" "Ponan" Boyer and Mary "Monan" Akiwenzie and also her sister Doris Agawa (late Jimmy) and her brothers Arthur Boyer (late Helen) and Frank Boyer (late Elizabeth). Irene is the last of her kin. She grew up living off the land and was a fourth generation traditional elder. She was loved and cherished by her many nieces, nephews and her two caregivers, Marie and Zeegwon.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Rankin Arena (17 Batchewana St.) on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 from 5 pm until time of the traditional service on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at 10 am. Leaving for the Goulais Mission Traditional Cemetery at 11 am. Lunch provided following graveside service at the Annex in Goulais Mission Reserve (2811 Goulais Mission Road). A sacred fire is at 571 Gran Street until Thursday. Memorial donations (payable by cheque or online) to the Elders Complex on the Rankin Reserve would be appreciated.
