We are heartbroken to announce the unexpected passing of our beloved husband and father, Henry Strom at home on Monday, July 13, 2020, four days short of his 85th birthday.
Oh Henry and Sweet Marie were married for 64 years. Together they had four children, Stephen (Joanne), Dennis, Gregory (Ivy), and Melissa. Henry loved it when his children were all home together for celebrations, and was sentimental in his later years about how much they meant to him. Cherished Papa to Marcus (Shannon), Kyle (Jeannine), Brett (Tara), Sabrina (Anthony) and Lara. Great Papa to Owen, Hudson and Ava Marie. Predeceased by his parents Alfred and Ina (nee Seabloom) and his siblings Inez (Henry), Ann (Howard), Art (Florence), Clare (Gladys), Leo (Orlean), Mildred (Clayton) and survived by Tommy (Janice). Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. He loved his fur babies Clyde, Sasha, Georgio, Channel and Meikka.
Those that know him best know that Henry took special pride in his family, his heritage and his work as a skilled electrician. Throughout his long career, he met and made many friends, whom he talked about fondly. He enjoyed his work as an electrician, but he likely enjoyed meeting people in his job the most. Henry only hung up his tool belt a few years ago in his early 80s. Henry will always be remembered for his great sense of humour and his ability to make people laugh. He was upbeat and quick witted, and was full of teasing, often making up convincing stories which reeled in anyone unsuspecting of his mischievous nature. He played the lottery often and loved to talk about winning so that he could share his windfall with his family. This was the topic of many, many conversations. Henry spent his early years in Nestorville, Ontario before the family moved to a farm in Blind River, finally settling in Sault Ste. Marie in his late childhood. Henry treasured his Swedish roots, and loved all things Swedish, including cheering for the Swedes in Hockey tournaments unless the Canadians were playing. He looked forward to watching the World Juniors Hockey Tournament after Christmas every year. Henry so much enjoyed his days spent at the cottage at Goulais River next to his two brothers, where many family memories were made. Whether he realized it or not, he instilled his love for family and the value of hard work in his children. He will forever be cherished by his family just as he cherished them. “Family first,” he would always say. Love you more!!

A private family service has been held, and cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life for Henry will be planned for the fall. Memorial donations (payable by cheque or online) to ARCH or the Sault Area Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
