Virginia Marie Suraci (nee Dupuis), affectionately known as “Virg”, passed away at the age of 97 on Tuesday August 15, 2023, in Maple, Ontario.

Virginia was a sister to 11, a loving wife, mother of four, and grandmother of four. Her passions included playing cards and bocce, bowling, sewing and crocheting, singing in the St. Gregory’s choir, making wine and sausage with Papa Joe, watching both granddaughter Paxton and the Greyhounds play hockey, and “MacGyver-ing” things. In her working life, Virginia loved her years at Cochrane Hardware and as a cook on the Agawa Canyon Tour Train. As a wife, mom, grandmother and friend, Virginia was strong, supportive, creative, and funny—an absolute force! She was truly one of a kind, and we will carry her spirit with us always.

Virginia is predeceased by her husband, Joseph Suraci; her oldest son, Stephen Suraci; and her youngest son, Christopher Suraci. She is survived by her sister Patricia Stopar (nee Dupuis); her son, Wayne Suraci and husband Merle Craig; her daughter-in-law, Patti Suraci (nee Pettenuzzo) and children Hayden and Paxton; and her daughter, Theresa Suraci, husband Robert Howard, and children Joseph and Rachel Virginia. For the past five years, Virginia has lived in Richmond Hill, Ontario, where she has spent her time enthusiastically joining in retirement home activities, and making people smile.

A celebration of Virginia’s life will take place on Saturday, September 9, 2023, 10:00 am at St. Gregory’s Church (71 Estelle St.). Reception and memories at the Delta Hotel (208 St. Mary’s River Drive) from 12:30pm-3:00pm.
