Posted

The family announces with sorrow his peaceful death, Monday, August 22, 2005, after a courageous battle against cancer, in Sudbury, at the age of 54 years. Cherished son of Sofia Szwed (née Rygielslsy) of Elliot Lake and of the late Jozef Szwed. Beloved companion of Guylaine of Chelmsford. Loving father of Corina Baxter (Randy) of Chelmsford, Lisa Jensen (Mike) of Hanmer and Brian Szwed of Sudbury. Also survived and lovingly remembered by Guylaine's children, Danica Males (Denis) and Brady Spencer (Jen) both of Blind River. Dear brother of Stanley Szwed (Monique) of Windsor, Helen Lavallée (Leonard) of Blind River and Mary Mikac (Tony) of Kitchener. Predeceased by his brother Walter. Sadly missed by his grandchildren Ethan, Maren Georgia, Tegan and Hailey as well as by many nieces and nephews. George was a hoist operator for many years with Rio Algom Mines in Elliot Lake. A courageous and strong willed individual, George surpassed all expectations and battled all odds as he faced his illness. His inspiration remains a source of strength for his loving companion and soul mate Guylaine. Together they discovered a deep source of love and respect. His affection for children earned him the title of uncle George to many. George was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. His spirit will remain with us, though he is no longer here. The family will receive friends at the Co-operative Funeral Home, 4691 Regional Road 15, Chelmsford, on Thursday, August 25 from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, August 26, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in St-Joseph Church, Chelmsford. Donations to the St-Joseph Church Renovation Fund or to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation would be greatly appreciated. -
