June 20, 1937 – April 21, 2023
We are saddened to announce the peaceful passing of our father at NSHN – Blind River with family by his side. Predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Anita (2016) and his parents Maire and Martti Tuomela. Loving father of Mark (Sophia), Carol McKenzie (Wilfred), Mike (Silvia), Lisa MacDonald (Chris) and Linda. Survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephew. Cherished brother of Marja Markkula. Will be forever missed by his best friend Blake Smale (Joanne) and his hunting and fishing buddies.
Eric worked on the boats transporting goods throughout the Great Lakes until he started his 38-year career at Algoma Steel. During work and after retirement, he loved to hunt, camp and fish. The family spent many years together camping at Goulais Bay and Aubrey Lake. Dad had many fur babies over the years, amongst the best were “Gus, Snoopy and Alice”. Dad enjoyed spending time playing cribbage and euchre games at the Richards Landing Legion Hall.
The family wishes to thank NSHN – Blind River, Acute care staff for their care and compassion for our dad. A special thank to Dad’s homecare nurses Amy and Jessica for their steadfast care over the years.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the Richards Landing Legion Hall. Cremation has taken place.
