On November 17, 2017, peacefully at ARCH in his 86th year following a fierce battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Eldest son of the late Bert and late Winifred Tyler of Saint John, NB. Brother of Chuck Tyler (Marilyn) of Comox, British Columbia. Loving husband of the late Elsie Tyler. Revered father (Dadder) of Mitch (Denise); Melanie (Silvano); and Tim (Jenn). Grampy of Christian and Rhys (Courtny); Rachel and Erik; and the new guy, Griffin. Greatest Grampy of Hudson. Special friend of Wendy Weir (late Chuck) and Pauline Weir (late Harvey). Our Dad was keen to defy the odds after a devastating diagnosis of IPF last year. He was best described as "sharp as a tack" right to the end, avidly devouring all newspaper and other news media. He was a skilled Samarai Sudoku master and believed strongly in the benefits of Tai Chi. Our Dad was a loyal IBEW electrician and could fix anything. He was a staunch lifetime supporter of the NDP and took great pride in his party's support of working families and the advancement of strategies to overcome unjust social and environmental policies. Heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of ARCH who not only provided exemplary care but laughter, affection and an enriched family experience over the past 7 months. Special thanks to friends of Central United Church and the extended Sundstrom family for the many visits, cards and well wishes. In accordance with our Dad's wishes, cremation has taken place and a release of ashes will occur at Belleisle Bay near his hometown of Saint John, NB. A Celebration of Life will take place on Wednesday December 27, 2017 at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Church Hall, 293 St. Georges Ave. East from 1-3 p.m. Memorial donations are kindly appreciated and can be made to: The Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (47 Squire Baker's Lane Markham, ON L3P 3G8 www@cpff.ca), the Sault Area Hospital Pulmonary Function Lab or Algoma Residential Community Hospice.
