It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Ron with his family by his side at the Sault Area Hospital on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at the age of 76. Beloved husband and best friend of Lynne. Proud father of Melinda Ritacco (Mel), Amy Hansen (Eric) and Elaine DeRosario (Joe). Ron will be remembered by Lynne’s children Jocelyn Evoy (Kerry) and John Evoy (Heather). Fun loving grandpa of Leah & Gavin Ritacco, Emma & Jack Hansen, Kara & Colton DeRosario and Ronan & Erik Evoy. Ron will be greatly missed by his big brother Bill (Doris). Ron is predeceased by his parents Ernest and Lily Uhryn. He will be missed by his nieces, nephews and his many long-standing friends.
Ron was proud to be born and raised in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. He cherished his memories of growing up with his Ukrainian heritage and loved to reminisce about family gatherings with his many cousins. After graduating from KLCVI, he attended Teachers’ College at Nipissing University where he made many life-long friends. Ron accepted a teaching job in Sault Ste. Marie and taught for over 37 years, retiring as a well-respected principal with the Algoma District School Board. Ron loved to share stories of his adventures in education and fondly spoke about his students and staff throughout the years.
Ron had a competitive spirit, enjoyed many sports and for 30 years he was a city league basketball and football referee. He made many friendships while playing baseball, golf and curling, as well as when he travelled the country as a CCA official at national curling events. He later took much pride in watching his grandchildren play their own sports.
Ron especially loved the time he spent travelling with his wife Lynne. Once retired, they created some of their favourite memories together as winter Texans and Ron kept up that famous tan of his. Ron was extremely proud of Lynne’s beautiful gardens. In recent years, he became passionate about their hobby of raising monarchs, proudly releasing thousands of beautiful butterflies for the world to enjoy.
We will remember his delicious homemade pedaheh, the memorable camping trips, his smart wit and his sense of humour. We will remember his love for the Christmas holidays, family and social gatherings. Most of all, we will remember how proud he was of all of us and the love that we all felt.
Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorial Service to be held in the Chapel on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Mrs. Helen Smith officiating.
