We sincerely regret to announce the passing of Richard Romeo Valenti. Born February 28, 1932 Detroit, Michigan and died February 7, 2020 Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Son of the late Romeo and Betty Valenti of Detroit, Michigan and son-in-law of the late Karol and Mary Krivan of Sault Ste. Marie. Loving husband of Mary Bernadette Valenti (nee Krivan). Father of Rick and wife Mary, John and wife Jane, and Karen. Grandfather of Michael, Mark and wife Jessica, and Mitchell. Dear brother of the late Joyce Carcone, Janet Certo and George and wife Carol. Brother in law of Anne and Sparky Scarfone, and the late Fran and John Mislan, and Carl and Mary Krivan. Survived by many nieces and nephews. Surrounded by family, the bravest man we know passed away quietly at the Sault Area Hospital Friday morning. Richard was born and raised in Detroit, attended Cooley High School, served two tours of duty in the US Navy during the Korean War. Upon his return, he attended the University of Detroit to study accounting. Richard immigrated to the Sault in 1955 and married in 1957. A successful self-made businessman and entrepreneur, possessing a work ethic second to none, he was also a member of the Soo Pee Wee executive, a long standing Kiwanian and dedicated parishioner and member of St. Jerome Parish Council. Sailing was a lifelong passion that he inflicted upon all of his family. Without telling one joke, he was the funniest guy we knew. With not a lot to say, everyone still wanted to talk with him. He was a loving husband, dedicated to his family and will be missed but never forgotten. For all of the special care Richard received over the past many years, the family wishes to express sincere thanks to all of the doctors that have provided their unique expertise, the Renal Clinic, and the 3rd floor Nursing Team for their care and compassion. Family and friends may visit at Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E. 705-759-2522) on Monday, February 10, 2020 from 6 - 8 pm.
