Just days before his 85th birthday, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 18th, 2021 with family by his side. He leaves behind his wife of nearly 63 years, Reah (nee Willsie), daughters Rosanne (Robert), of Plympton-Wyoming, Susan (Roger), of Forest and son Bill (Peggy), of Sault Ste. Marie. Cherished grandfather to 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He is also predeceased by his parents Fred and Ella (nee Hemstock), three sisters, Louise, Pat and Barb and two brothers, Bud and Howard. He is survived by his sister Dolly.

Dad was born in Woodstock, summer of 1936. He lived a full life, drawing people in with his sincerity, witty humour, and gentleness. His calm, level-headed demeanor, used in his 30 years of serving and protecting as an OPP officer, allowed him to never miss a beat in putting his family first. Dad’s empathetic ways allowed him to be a mentor for many through his service as a Rotary Club member, a member of the Board at Emmanuel United Church along with his participation in multiple charity events. He and mom opened their home to others in such a genuine and meaningful way, offering love, compassion and wisdom to the many people that he held close to his heart. Dad was an avid hockey fan and enjoyed his season tickets for Hound games for many years. This love for hockey was definitely passed on through his family. If you knew Dad, then you knew that an interaction with him meant you were in for a riddle, corny joke or a great story from the past. The time spent with Dad left us all feeling like we had an extra bounce in our step.

Dad loved his wife. He lived by the best advice he offered his loved ones…”The best thing you can do for your children is to love their mother wholeheartedly”. That’s exactly what he did. Rest in peace Dad. We love you.

Our family wishes to thank all staff at the Sault Area Hospital, especially Dr. Elder and Nurse Sandra who showed amazing compassion in Dad’s final hours. Thank you to the staff at Van Daele who gave outstanding care to Dad and are continuing that care for Mom. Also, a huge thank you to LHIN and the many PSW’s that cared for Dad in the past year.
