His journey ended at home on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at the age of 76. Dear father of Penny West (Darrel Palmer), Lori Yacuik (John) and Shelley Vecchio (Gino). Loving Gramps of Amber, Hannah, Logan, Ryan, Breanna, Jordan, Alexa and Cameron. Gramps had a special bond with his children and grandchildren, each in a unique and different way. He was so proud. Predeceased by his parents Mary and George West. Brother of Lois Hardie (Dave), Arnie (Peggy), Mary Ann McClelland (David) and Betty-Jean Smith (Ron). Ken had a bond like no other with his brother Arnie or “special bro” as they referred to each other. They were more than brothers, they were a listening ear, a helping hand, and a complete balance for one another. Son-in-law of the late Jim and Nona Acciavatti. Brother-in-law of Carol, Karin and the late Brenda. Although the marriage between Ken and Dian ended, the relationships and friendships between him and the Acciavatti family remained strong. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Ken was a very intelligent man, who had many facts, figures and random information to share. He had the ability to talk about anything and everything with anyone. When giving advice he would always start with “You Gotta”, followed by something you need to do or somewhere you need to go. He was a very funny man who loved to put humour into everything. The master of one liners. One of our favourites was “If you want to start at the top, dig a hole.” Ken’s battle with cancer started many years ago. We would say he was invincible as he fought each struggle with humour and grace, as he was sure to tell us he was “Always 110%”. Ken was a special man who will be missed by many. Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road 705-945-7758) on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service in the Chapel on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Bill McLean officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to ARCH, Tracy’s Dream or SAH Cancer Care Fund would be appreciated by the family. Special thank you to Dr. Spadafora, the staff at SAH Cancer Care Unit, Dr. Sundaresan and the thoracic team at Ottawa Hospital. Ken always said his doctors and care staff were “Top Notch”. A special thank you to the home care nurses and Dennis Dinelle (Tracy’s Dream). Thank you to EMS, City Police and fire department for their kind and immediate care.
