Affectionately known to many as "Oma," was born on September 9, 1930, in the picturesque village of Tesserete, Switzerland.

After graduating with a nursing degree in Paris, she moved to Canada to work as a nurse in Montreal. She met her future husband, Rolf Wiese (predeceased), while they were both immigrating to Canada. Embracing her passion for new challenges Franca transitioned from nursing to teaching, dedicating her life to nurturing and educating children. A gifted linguist, she was fluent in seven languages. Franca continued to teach until the age of 80, spending the majority of those years in Elliot Lake, ON. It was then that she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. After a courageous 14-year battle with the disease, she passed away peacefully on August 23, 2024, at the FJ Davey Home, with her loving family by her side.

Franca lived a full and vibrant 93 years, embodying the rich traditions and values of her Swiss heritage. Her warmth, kindness, and endearing spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. Though her passing marks the end of an era, the memories she created and the love she shared will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were privileged to know her.

She will join her husband, Rolf and son Robert in heaven. Franca leaves behind her two daughters, Monique Baker and Marline Penney (Wilf Penney), and her four cherished grandchildren whom she adored; Michael and Crystal Penney, Caitlin and Darrell Baker.

A special thank you to the compassionate staff at the FJ Davey Home, Driftwood 3, for caring for “Omi” on her journey. We are deeply appreciative for all that you have done.

There will be a private celebration of life held on a later date for Franca. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions payable by cheque or online can be made to the Alzheimer's Society or the FJ Davey Home.Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East, 705-759-2522). Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be offered at www.arthurfuenralhome.com for the Wiese family.
