January 8, 1936 – January 28, 2024

With sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of Ken Young with family and caregivers by his side, on January 28, 2024, at the age of 88.

Devoted husband of Shirley. Cherished father of Steven, Janet, Donald, and Michael. Grandfather to Jenn, Joe, Ben, Miranda, Autumn, Kailie, and Evan. Special great grandfather of Sadie, Charlotte, Ashun, Stella, Archer, and Piper. Cherished son of the late James and Marie Young. Dear brother of Joyce, Bill, Bob, and Paul. Ken had the honour of bonding with many in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family who joined his family circle over the years. He loved and cared about all of them.

Born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Ken was a well-known and respected member of his community. He developed many interests and hobbies over his lifetime and had a strong work ethic and embraced his career in the automotive industry. He began his career at 12, working at Kohens Scrapyard after school and on the weekends. He then worked with Steel City Motors, Steel City Coach Lines, Volkswagen, Elite Limousines and Ford Motor companies.

Ken’s keen memory, interests, and vast knowledge were an asset to many history groups around Sault Ste. Marie. Ken loved fishing, the outdoors, and camping on Diamond Lake. He loved gatherings with friends and family. He was very spunky and was an advocate for our family.

Ken took great pride in his Scottish heritage, family, friendships, and connections that were developed in his lifetime. They were cherished deeply. In his later years he could be spotted zipping around Bellevue Park on his red scooter with his furry companion, Tara in tow.

Ken had a full and happy life. He was strong in his faith and always proud of his family.

As a strong, independent and sometimes stubborn man, he finally realized he needed help with his daily living. He held the highest respect and admiration for all those who acted as caregivers.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at O’Sullivan Funeral Home (215 St. James St, SSM) from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. A service will follow in the chapel at 3:00 pm with Pastor Clinton Moody officiating. Interment to take place in the spring at Gordon Lake Cemetery.
