Five arrested after confinement and assault of man in Thunder Bay, Ont.

THUNDER BAY, Ont. — Police say five people have been arrested after a man was bound and assaulted inside a Thunder Bay, Ont., home on Monday.

Officers were dispatched to the south side on Monday afternoon to help a man who had reportedly been bound.

Police say that when officers entered the home they found multiple suspects, and a man who was bound and had sustained injuries consistent with an assault.

They say five suspects were arrested at the scene, including one Ottawa-area youth.

Police say there was evidence of ongoing drug-trafficking in the residence and cocaine was seized during the arrests.

A 17-year-old boy from Ottawa as well as two men and two women from Thunder Bay were charged with several criminal offences.

Those charges include forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking among other offences.

All five appeared in bail court on Tuesday, with a 24-year-old woman released from custody with conditions and a future court appearance date. 

The remaining suspects were remanded into custody with future appearance dates.
