EAST GWILLIMBURY, Ont. — York Regional Police say three hospitalized victims, including two boys under the age of five, are expected to survive their injuries after a weekend incident in East Gwillimbury, Ont., that left two other people dead.
A statement from Const. Laura Nicolle says a two-year old boy, a four-year-old boy and a 35-year-old woman were rushed to hospital with serious injuries on Saturday afternoon.
Nicolle's says the homicide unit is still investigating the incident reported to police as a stabbing, which left a 38-year-old woman dead.
Ontario's police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit, says it is also investigating the death of the 37-year-old male suspect in the case, who it says was shot by police.
The SIU is automatically called in to investigate incidents involving police in which someone is killed, seriously injured or accused of sexual assault.
Nicolle says that while there is no further concern for public safety, there will be continued police presence in the area, and that investigators are looking for more details from witnesses.
