Motorcyclist, 52, dies after crash involving tractor-trailer east of Montreal

MONTREAL — A motorcyclist has died after an accident involving a tractor trailer in St-Nazaire-d'Acton, in the Monteregie region of Quebec.

Provincial police say the victim was Eric Tremblay, 52, of the same municipality where the crash occurred, about 90 kilometres east of Montreal.

Police received a call late Friday for an accident between three motorcycles and a tractor-trailer at an intersection.

Early details suggest the female driver of the rig came to a stop and was getting ready to continue on St-Hyacinthe Road, but didn't see the motorcycles coming from the east and cut their route.

A first motorcycle struck the driver's side of the rig. Tremblay was taken to hospital where his death was pronounced and the driver of the truck was treated for minor injuries.

The second motorcycle lost control trying to avoid the truck, but the woman driving it only suffered minor injuries. A third motorcycle managed to avoid the truck altogether.

Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The maximum speed in the area is 80 km/h.
