Police watchdog called in after carjacking, police shooting in Brampton

BRAMPTON, Ont. — The Special Investigation Unit says it is investigating the circumstances surrounding a police-involved shooting west of Toronto.

The police watchdog says officers were investigating an alleged carjacking in York Region, north of Toronto, on Tuesday.

Later in the day, Peel Regional Police officers attempted to stop the vehicle in a gas station in Brampton.

The SIU says there was an unspecified interaction resulting in an officer firing a weapon.

One man in the vehicle was struck and sent to hospital for surgery.

Police say two other people have been arrested.
